The College Of Central Finland is a politically and religiously neutral, Grundtvigian Folk High School. It was founded as early as in 1894 and it is one of the oldest schools in the region. The institute’s firm foundation is built upon a strong tradition of liberal adult education. Today The College of Central Finland offers both liberal adult education and vocational education for young people and adults.

The College Of Central Finland is situated right in the heart of Finland, in the middle of beautiful waterways and peaceful environment and yet being easily accessible from all parts of Finland. The village of Suolahti is nowadays part of the town of Äänekoski which has got 20 000 inhabitants. Only 40 kilometres away lies the lively capital of Central Finland, Jyväskylä, with about 130 000 inhabitants.

The campus area provides excellent facilities for meetings, courses and different kinds of events.
Our accommodation capacity is 88 beds. There are both single and twin rooms available and one room furnished to accommodate handicapped students. The institute’s very own restaurant offers delicious dishes at reasonable prices. The residential halls are modern and the equipment and teaching facilities are up-to-date.

Leisure Activities

There are concerts and other performances almost every week in the Suolahtisali concert hall on the campus. Suolahti village has got a swimming pool with steam bath facilities within walking distance. For outdoor activities there are a number of alternatives both in winter and summer. The lakes, rivers and rapids offer you a great chance for canoeing and you can go on an organized cruise in the summertime. The nature trails are excellent for hiking at almost any time of the year. Because snow in the winter is always guaranteed in this area, cross-country skiing is a popular form of recreation and slopes for snowboarding are only 9 kilometres away. The indoor skating rink is almost next to the campus area, there you can go skating, play ice-hockey or enjoy the ice-hockey matches every week during the season.
